REQUIRED HIRING PAPERWORK
HERE'S WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO NEED
BEFORE YOU CAN START WORK ON
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2025!

Once you've received an official offer via email
to become an intern this fall,
we need you to locate, obtain, and bring
a number of things to the required workshop
on Tuesday, September 9, or Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Required In-Person Hiring Workshop

You must attend one of the following,
preferably with a family member:
Tuesday, September 9, 2025
Escuela Verde
3628 W. Pierce St.
5:00 - 7:00 pm

OR
Wednesday, September 10, 2025
Escuela Verde
3628 W. Pierce St.
5:00 - 7:00 pm

If for any reason you can't attend
either of these workshops,
you must let us know by emailing
internships@teensgrowgreens.org.

It will be your personal responsibility
to bring in all the appropriate documents
on your first day of work.
So that you can prepare
what you need beforehand,
here's a detailed list of all the things
you'll need to bring!

#1 Tax & Employment Forms

At this workshop, we will help you complete 3 forms: a Federal Tax Form (W-4), a Wisconsin Tax Form (WT-4), and an Employment Eligibility Form (I-9).

For all 3 forms, you will need to know your Social Security #.

For the I-9 form, you will need to bring the following original documents (we can't accept photocopies or screenshots):

EITHER a U.S. Passport/Permanent Resident Card

OR one from each of these lists:

(1) Wisconsin ID or school ID with photo (also valid: voter's registration card, Native American tribal document, school report card with address, or doctor record with address)

(2) Social Security card or birth certificate (also valid: Native American tribal document or U.S. Citizen ID card)

We will photocopy these documents at the workshop to keep in your file.

#2 Bank Account
Direct Deposit Verification & Authorization

If you already have a bank account, you will need to bring the Direct Deposit Verification to the Hiring Workshop. This is an original document (we can't accept photocopies or screenshots) from your bank that has YOUR NAME, YOUR ACCOUNT #, and YOUR BANK'S ROUTING #. It could be:

(1) the letter you received from your bank when you opened your account (with your name and complete account # and routing #) PREFERRED!
(2) a voided check with your name and account #.
(3) a bank statement with your name and account #.

We will photocopy this document at the Hiring Workshop.

We will also help you complete a Direct Deposit Authorization form that will give us permission to deposit your paycheck into the account above.

If you don't have a bank account yet, you will need to open one:

(1) You can open one yourself before the Hiring Workshop and bring the necessary document (see above) to the workshop.
(2) OR we will help you at the Hiring Workshop to set up an appointment with a local bank like Educators Credit Union.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We highly encourage you to have your own bank account from a local institution (like Educators Credit Union or US Bank) and not CashApp or Chime or any other similar service. These kinds of services can be easily hacked or frozen, and you have no one local who will be ready to help you. We highly encourage that your bank account is your own and not a family member's. This way, you can begin the process of becoming an adult and entering the work world with the things you need.

#3 Work Permit
If you will be under 16 years old

You must be at least 14 years old to work in Wisconsin. Therefore, if you will be under 16 years old on the first day of work (September 20, 2025), you will need to obtain a work permit.
(1) You can apply online before the Hiring Workshop at this link: https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/er/laborstandards/workpermit/ (there is a $10 fee which we will reimburse on your first paycheck).

(2) OR we will help you at the Hiring Workshop to complete the application (we will pay the $10 fee right there for you).

Either way, you will receive a notice on the screen and via email saying that your permit has been created and will be sent to our office.
NOTE: When they ask for what kind of job you're applying, choose Clerical.

NOTE: When they ask for your employer's address, choose Teens Grow Greens, 322 E. Michigan St. Suite 204, Milwaukee, WI 53202.

Remember:

We must have all physical forms and documents
in hand when you arrive on your first day.

If anything is missing,
you will not be able to participate
in the fall internship.
